Default Checking for updates

When my computer is checking for updates I get the following message:

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view". There is no error message number.

As a result of this I haven't updated Windows XP for months. Can anyone
help me with this?

You receive a "Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the
requested page" error message when you try to install an update
XP

My friend is having the same problem and we will try the fixes provided on
the page you linked us to. But please note: sarahj60 wrote "The Website has
encountered a problem, etc" and your linked page says: "Windows Update has
encountered a problem, etc.". Can we expect the fixes to help?

Default RE: Checking for updates

I tried your fix and this did not help. It is the website that has
encountered the problem not Windows Update. Any other suggestions?
