First, you must determine if your PC has an available AGP slot. I could not
determine this from HP's website. (Their site is awful, if you're looking for part information, in my opinion.) -- ------------------------------------------ Donny Broome http://www.broomeman.com/tech/ ------------------------------------------ "Tizerist" <Tizerist@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E894EF33-54FE-4CEC-B99E-1CD47508AD85@microsoft.com... > i'm confused. i need a good graphics card, primarily for my google > earth,and > i dont know if i need AGP, PCI,What chipset type i need, or even i might > need > a power supply upgrade! > i'm waiting for 2x512 mb memory modules in the post, but otherwise my > specs > are (deep breath).... > > pc HP Compaq (vectra) VL600 > p3 processor > cpu speed 666mhz-front side bus speed 133mhz > current memory 128mb > > and my graphics card > matrox millenium G250 AGP > chip type-MGA G250 > DAC type- integrated, 250 mhz > memory size 8mb > bios info v2.5.019 > device type- display adapters > location- PCI Bus 1,device 0, function 0 > > any help appreciated |

it would appear so. a crucial scan revealed this;
Your Graphics Card Card Type (Bus Type) AGP so, if ive got that bit sorted, what else do i need to know? at the very least, i could need a power supply upgrade. thanks guys, 'preciate |

Full specs are available here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su...7/lpv06447.pdf Yes, the motherboard has an AGP 4x slot. Although most (if not all) AGP8x video cards can be placed in a 4x slot, you will NOT get the full additional performance that the 8x gives over 4x. If you are pleased with the performance of Matrox series of cards, then perhaps check out the Millenium G450 and G550 to see if either suits your needs. You might also want to compare AGP4x cards based on NVidia's GeForce chipset and ATI's Radeon chipset. okay so i want a:

The mhz of the card refers to the internal clock speed of the graphics
processor built into the card, and has no bearing on your computer's front side bus speed or the AGP bus speed. You may not find many answers to your queries in this newsgroup, as it is for issues relating to the Windows Update site. You might receive more definitive answers if you post your question to a hardware specific newsgroup. Just a thought......... You do not need a high end video card for your computer, you can get an 8X AGP card for under $50. However, these video cards require at least 300 watts of power. So, I suggest that you check your PS wattage. If your motherboard is MATX ( that is, your computer case is small), the maximum you can get is 325 watts of power. Orinello |
