Hello all.
Am I the only one experiencing difficulties accessing windows update in the last two days or is it a general issue? I am accessing from Italy and encountering slow downs and subsequent locks. Any help appreciated. Stefano |

No you are not the only one. I just noticed it Friday night and when I went
in to check windows update I found out that I apparently have had the problem for over a month. It started on November 11, 2005. But, before I realized that, I thought I had done something wrong, like adding a game or bringing down the wrong web site, etc. I tried, to no avail to clean up, system restore, etc. I've been in a big mess ever since. I still haven't corrected the problem. I just turned to microsoft website for the newsgroup just now. I was in touch with microsoft, or rather, I wrote to them about the problem, BUT, they did realize that my whole web function had collapsed. All weekend I have been trying to right this situation. Finally, just to get my website back up and receive e-mail, I begged my dsl carrier to reset the web for me. They did, but there apparently is no real answer to this problem. I have been reading the other mail, and it seems very technical to me. I am afraid of doing such stuff because I don't know if I make a mistake that I will be able to revert back to the default. Especially if the web freezes up again as it has done all weekend. I found a resolution courtesy of google and some insights on this forum (some of which lead to detecting a pair of (alleged) trojans that seem to have slipped by Zone Alarms, Ad-aware, S&D (try Trend Micros Homecall) Plus I identified some errors on my part by not alerting scans to a multi-platter arrangement so i may have missed what happened on data drives by focussing on system disk exclusively. The only other changes I made were to install Google Earth, Firefox 1.5 and google toolbar (Earth & toolbar now ditched) |

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the
problem. 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL Press okay If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files: 1. Click Start. 2. Choose Run. 3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :- net stop wuauserv Repeat for the following: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wuweb.dll regsvr32 MSXML3.dll regsvr32 qmgr.dll regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll net start wuauserv Gary "Stefano Ferrante" wrote: > Hello all. > > Am I the only one experiencing difficulties accessing windows update in the > last two days or is it a general issue? > > I am accessing from Italy and encountering slow downs and subsequent locks. > > Any help appreciated. > > Stefano > > > |
