Ellen,
Update kb905915 (previously kb896688) is causing your problems. I'm out here trying to find the solution too. It also breaks Microsoft's Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0 and the Tech*Ed 2005 DVD and InstallShield 10.5. Good luck "sweet_cheeks1967" wrote: > hi all of a sudden i cant install updates either from windows or microsoft, > both of these were automatically downloaded, now i cant even get to get to > veiw the updates that ive installed in my history. can anyone help id be most > gratful as ive tried everything. (im win xp sp2) thanks Ellen I don't know if it helps but there is a new update that seems to deal with this issue |

I should also point out that you can use Add/Remove Programs in control panel
to remove those updates. If I remove those updates, the products I mentioned earlier work fine. Ellen,
There is a solution and as of last night, it has successfully fixed 3 machines. There has been some threads in here referring to OLEfix (which contains OLE_fix.reg). It appears that something has removed some settings in the registry. Thanks to the MVP who has been posting this information like crazy. The *.reg file looks like this: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="ClassMoniker" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32] @="ole32.dll" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID] @="clsid" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID] @="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}" The question was asked if this 'fix' re-opens any security threats and the response was 'No'. I can't guarantee that statement is true...I ran across a Microsoft bulletin that stated that Monikers where being disabled in IE and this registery entry referes to the "ClassMoniker"...could just be something totally different. Good luk: "sweet_cheeks1967" wrote: > Thank you for replying, hope you also found a solution, thanks again Ellen. > "DanielC" wrote: > > > Ellen, > > Update kb905915 (previously kb896688) is causing your problems.
