Yep...this fixed the problem for me...thanks for the post.
I appreciate this being intended by MS...but it would be a realatively simple thing to have let us know ahead of time rather than wasting a tremendous amount of our combined time. I searched the security bulletin (MS05-054) and there is no mention of this there. I suspect a permissions problem of some kind, e.g. either in the file system or in the registry. Unfortunately there is not enough detail here and I have no insight into the implementation to be able to infer anything more specifically. Therefore, unless resorting to a /verbose install yields better clues I would use RegMon and FileMon concurrently to try to track down which specific file or directory needs to have its attributes changed or which registry key is causing a similar problem (or which other account you might be able to use without changing any of those things.) Etc. For more information about this technique search my posts with keyword: Milleseconds http://www.microsoft.com/communities...918&sloc=en-us (Web interface search of this newsgroup for aldwinckle milleseconds ) Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

The two first lines in my letter were not supposed to be read as a
sentence. The log-file names should not be there at all (my reminders). Having installed and the Windows Updated reported success, I restarted my system, and the same old update 905915 was available again...! :-( At least on my machine, my trick with the registry only made the difference from Windows update reporting error to Windows Update reporting success when it's not. Could you please recapitulate the links that help? Thanks, Andreas Ottmar Freudenberger skrev: > "Andreas1974" <andreas.jansson@home.se> schrieb: > > > Windows update fails on installing > > KB910437.log KB905915.log > > The LOG files aren't installed ;-) > > > This bug seems to occur if you have changed the default location of the > > "program files" folder. > > That's not a bug but intended for KB905915 like it has been for > KB896688. > > See the articles/thread I've linked too ;-) > > Bye, > Freudi |

Which AntiVirus software are you using? Any chance it's working under a additionaly created Windows account with administrator user rights? Bye, Freudi |

I find on update history that I have now "successfully" updated with Windows
XP update (KB910437) a total of 13 times. No failures are recorded. I am now being prompted to install it again! Here is my Log file, don't print it, the forests need saving. My logfile is too long. I shall delete it and try one more "Sucessful" install and post that resultant log. |
