Default How to remove detected/scheduled update

I recently replaced a failed modem (Agere Systems Softmodem) and have just
received notification through WU that there is an available update and am
prompted to install. Since the modem and software have been removed, the
update fails but remains in teh detected scheduled updates. How can I remove
this update?

I have tried choosing custom installation and unchecked it, but it returns
at the nest boot up.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try using Device Manager? (e.g. via System Properties, Hardware tab
--press Win-Break etc.)

BTW this is probably not the best newsgroup to ask this question in.
Try a newsgroup which specializes in hardware for your OS?
