The first log is located in C:\Windows and is called "Windows Update.log" (it
only mentions updates from 2004-06-26 to 2004-08-14). The second 'log' is shown when I run Windows Update. There is a menu item: Settings -- View the update list (the exact wording of these items may be slightly different in the English version of XP, as I use a Danish version of XP and have translated them here). - 'View the update list' shows a nice table with dates and small green icons for "successful install". The latest of these is dated 21 Dec. 2005 - and there are about 10 previous "successes" which actually were failures. When I try to install the update from the same place (Windows Update) - it says that its size is 0 kb and the time it will take is 0 minutes! When I then press 'Install' it shows a progress bar (as previously mentioned), and finally it proudly announces: The computer is now updated! Which it is not ... Rather strange ... Do you have another folder named Windows on a drive other than C: (e.g.,
D:\Windows)? Have you ever moved Windows Update-related files to a drive other than C: ? Have you tried all of the suggestions list in?... Ah! I found that in
C:\Windows\ there were 2 files - 1. Windows Update.log and 2. WindowsUpdate.log (without space) The last of these was the one functioning! Reading some of the lines, I found something about Download Managers - so I disabled some download mgrs. - And rebooted. First it looked as if the problem was solved. But when I tried to run Windows Update - it was again the same - it wanted to install: KB905915. Do you want me to send (the latest part of) WindowsUpdate.log? (can I send files here - or should I just quote it in this box?). There are some technical lines in the WindowsUpdate.log which might help identify the problem... > > Have you tried all of the suggestions list in?... Looking at the 'symptoms' here, it seems that this file does not address the problem.
