Okay, we are progressing. We can now access WU and get a list of what is
needed etc., you have passed validation. Now perhaps it’s time we look a little further. We’ll start by dealing with the Windows Updates, leave the Office one for now. We’ll come back to that. What we need to do is look at the Windows Update Log. To do this, Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log and then click OK. Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt. If appropriate, copy and paste the error message parts of the update log into this thread and maybe someone or myself can assist you further. As a last resort you may have to manually install the failed updates. Search for a download http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en How to install multiple Windows updates or hotfixes with only one reboot http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296861 You can also download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp How to Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323166 Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you want, Click the “Go To Download Basket” link. Type in or browse to the location where you want the updates saved to and then Click the “Download Now” button. Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD. I don't have the magic answer/cure for this one, and I can't search my notes
as I'm at work. So what we'll try next is a manual update, starting with: Cumulative Update for Outlook Express for Windows XP (KB887797) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Download the update, install the same, reboot if required. Was that successful? If so, then try the rest of the updates, one at a time. You can search for the updates using the link/s I gave you earlier. Let's know how you are going. I seem to have found a faster way (maybe this will also help you for the
future). When you run windows update, it downloads the updates to that "Software Distribution" folder. Just go tot hat folder, open the Download folder, folder (it'll probably look something like b23984623948632980742). Then inside that folder there is usually either a bunch of folders, in which case you open the update folder and run update.exe, or a compressed folder so you uncompress it and run the installation exe. Quick and easy, and you just click "dont' restart" after each setup, so you can restart only once after you install all of them thanks for the help by the way! peace "TaurArian" wrote: > I don't have the magic answer/cure for this one, and I can't search my notes > as I'm at work. Well done, now we have WU done. I wasn't 100% sure your updates downloaded,
but pleased they had and you were able to install from the SoftwareDistribution folder. Your feed back may assist someone else as well.
