Default Error number: 0xC8000711

Good Morning all,
This is the error message I get these days when I attempt to use MIcrosoft
Update after noticing I was no longer recieving alerts that there were
updates ready to download. I have W2K Pro. Can anyone assist me? Appreciate
all comments shared. Also, I consider myself a geek wanna-be whose about a
mid-beginner level. Thanks very much!

Hi Desiree 3D,

Ensure that the Event Log service is set to Automatic and is Started.....

Go to Start>Run and key in:
services.msc
Click on OK or hit ENTER

In the Services console window, scroll (if necessary) to locate Event Log in
the right-hand pane. Double-click on Event Log and ensure that "Startup type"
is set to Automatic. If the service is stopped, click on the Start button.

Regards,

Please explain how your links are meant to be used or how you find them.

E.g. I tried to do a Ctrl-f find for the subject error code C8000711
and IE could not find an instance of it. Are the page names being
reused? Perhaps you should also state the thread number and
thread Subject you see? Etc.

Thanks for trying to help.

Try a search?

You're posting from the web interface so use its search tool.
E.g. press Alt-7 to set keyboard focus in the search input box,
type your error code 0xC8000711 and then press Enter.

In fact, there are so many hits that it's worthwhile trying the filters
to see less of them. There was one hit using the Answered questions
filter and some with the Threads with helpful posts filter
(unfortunately mostly inane voting for initial questioning posts.)
So, if you don't find anything useful that way you could still try
to find threads which involved MVP or MSFT responders.

For example, you could find this one that way:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities...70c&sloc=en-us

(response by PA Bear in August to Mark Brown's question)

Hi Robert,

I have searched for error: (0XC8000711) on Google,
and I have found quite a number of Links dealing with the
above error, I have logged on to the forums link above,
but I did not look for that particular error #, so today I have more
time and I dug it right out for You, but don't expect a solution
from the Group in question, they are upset at Bill Gates.

Here is how to find it:
once You log on scroll slowly down and keep an Eye on the line numbers
on the left side of Your screen, when You reach line # (18973) & (18974)
Stop and click on one of them, they are both the same.
Would I have known that there was no solution, I would have not given
that Link out. But lets look at the bright side
there are more links that can be useful. I was very tired+sleepy last night
and I did half of the job, sorry folks.
