will not install. After trying to install I get the dialog saying unable to

Open the KB905915.log located in the WINDOWS directory. Look for an
error code(s) associated with the failed installation and post back with
that section(s), please.

extended error code = 0xf00d... i tryed to install this a few times and all
the error codes were the same

You should be glad that cannot install it. Since I installed it, I
have been unable to use Windows update and McAfee Viruscan update.
Uninstalling it fixed those problems.
Another update that caused me the same heartache was (KB896688). After
I uninstalled it, I was able to update again. If you have this one
installed, I would either uninstall it or go here for a
fix:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909889.

Mike,

Download the update manually, save it, close IE. Disconnect from the
internet if you're on broadband OR dialup. Temporarily disable the
installed antivirus program's real time protection and then install it.

For XP SP 1 :

For XP SP2 :

The system will restart to finish the installation. After it's done,
reenable the AV's real time protection. Reconnect to the net if on
broadband.
