Here's my problem. I have Windows Millennium operating system. A few weeks
ago, I sent an email to the technical support crew telling them I had a problem with the download of the critical update to KB896688. Once I clicked on the update, I would assume that it was downloaded so then the window would come up and ask me to reboot. So I did. I came back online, checked windows update again and had seen the KB896688 update listed, needing to be downloaded. Regardless if I rebooted my machine or not, windows update would list the KB896688 update needing to be downloaded. I had given up hope so I let some time pass. Recently, I checked windows update again and this time it listed the KB905915 update(supersedes KB896688). So I downloaded that and the same thing happened to me when I downloaded the KB896688 update. I even tried to download the update from the windows catalog, save it on my desktop and download it. When I did download it, it would go its course but this grey window would pop up saying this": Advanced INF Installer - Reason - The configuration registry database is corrupt. However, it did say the update was downloaded successfully. I'm thinking that this is a registry problem. I haven't messed around with the registry so that's why this is puzzling to me. Is there a simplistic way that I can go into the registry, fix the error then download the update(KB905915) without having the grey window(registry) popping up along with the update looping over and over for me to download? I've gone to regedit.exe a few times just to see what it's like but I haven't gone and changed anything. I'm afraid of doing something and my computer won't run properly. Like I said, I'd like to be able to download this update without a problem and have my registry operating efficiently. Any input is appreciated. |

The problems that you have read about are on IE6, not IE7. They are caused by people having a registry key put in place by IE7 which is removed during normal uninstalls. The identified way that this gets left in place when IE6 is running is when people have an unsupported "side by side" configuration and are running both IE6 and IE7 on the same system. This is not supported. This is not an IE7 problem in particular. .... etc. Thanks, ...Vincenzo... ;-) -- \ | / Ciao (@ @) Fr@nk ---o00-(_)-00o-------------------------------------- |

One cannot install IE7 Beta1 in WinME, Frank. Since OP (Andrew) is running
WinME, he couldn't possibly have the Registry key in question which has been causing the problems for others. -- ~PA Bear ^__^ Fr@nk® wrote: > see below (between the two stars): > > "^__^ Fr@nk®" <nospam@unknown.com> ha scritto nel messaggio > news:lVMrf.16937$eD5.282171@twister2.libero.it... > > "PA Bear" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> ha scritto nel messaggio > > news:eXrNo0WCGHA.1032@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > > > ^__^ Fr@nk® wrote: > > > > > Here's my problem. The described issue of KB905915 could arise if you install IE7 and/or unistall it or you are running both IE6 and IE7 on the same system or IE6 only, because you unistalled IE7. This is not supported. This is not an IE7 problem in particular. For details please refer to Jeremy's Note at: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/16/504864.aspx Hoping this helps. |
