I have not been able to upgrade my home machine to SP2. It seems to install
fine, but upon restart it reboots as it tries to come up. If I go to safe mode, I can get it to boot and to uninstall SP2, which is what I have done a few times now over the year (hoping that more info would become available). I have found a few articles in the knowledge base, one involving a specific scanner driver which I do not have, and the other involving a certian Pentium/motherboard, which I also do not have. I have updated all of the drivers I use, and in general looked over the system and startup programs for somthing amiss, but have not located any issues. Questions: 1. Any suggestions? 2. Any log created upon the failed startup that would lead me to suspect a specific driver, etc. Thanks for any advice.. Ross |

1. Uninstall SP2 (if installed) via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.
2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum. Check for Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine.blogspot.com/ When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.** 3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill of health.
