Default Product key

I have not updated in a long time just because I did not see the point but
recently I bought a new software which requires me to have Service Pack 2. I
try to load it and it says it cannot let me because it might not me
authentic. I found the product code to prove it is but I do not know where to
enter it to show the computer that it is authentic please help me.
