Default Are both .Net Framework 1.1 & 2.0 needed?

I installed 2.0 and then uninstalled 1.1.
Now I'm getting 1.1 as a recommended download on Windows Update.

Is it necessary? Thanks.

To maintain backwards compatibility you should have .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1,
and 2.0 (with updates) installed.

Just to confirm that I understand, there's software that will run with 1.1
but not with 2.0(?). And other software that will run only with 1.0(?).

Let's hope that no one with a dial-up connection needs the .Net framework.

Yes, programs written with 1.0 or 1.1 cannot be run with 2.0; same as 1.1
will not run 1.0.
