I am at my wit's end trying to solve this prob. I am able to find 11 udates,
but when trying to download and install them, the computer just seems to hang. I have tried reregistering Msscript.ocx, Dispex.dll, Vbscript.dll and Scrrun.dll but this didn't help. I have added the Update website to my Trusted Sites (Windows Firewall). My computer is otherwise fine and very quick (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L laptop, Celeron 2.4 GHz processor, 248 MB RAM, Broadband connection). I have McAfee anti-virus software. Can anybody please help?? |

Marius,
Try turning on "Automatic Updates" to install automatically. I have used that for a very long time and have had no problems. With 11 downloads, you may have a very large total package to download. Usually the Firewall is not a problem and neither are anti-virus programs. Also, see if there is a difference by manually setting the internet security settings to the lowest settings. Hi,
I had Automatic Udates on for a long time before asking for help. My Udate history shows hundreds of failed attempts! I've had no successful Updates for several months. As far as changing the security level, the lowest allowable security level for the Windows Update website on my computer is Medium; I'm unable to set it any lower than this. Any further suggestions?? Try disabling the Windows Firewall and McAfee just for the update?

I seem to be at exactly the same place. I troulbe shoot windows for a living and have been doing this 17 years. This probelm is going to force a complete reinstall if I cant fix it soon. You have done all the right things and seem to know what you are talking about. I just read one person using Panda AV got over it when they released a fix. I dont use that. I didnt know my updates were not going in for the longest time. I am more behind than you. At first it was just the Net Framework updates that wouldnt go, now it is everything. It fails!!! right away, it couldnt have downloaded in the time it is taking so the prolbem is at that level. I turn off the firewall and no go. Windows wont though even take me manually downloading the updates and trying to execute them so maybe it is more than the download process is not working. I acutally got MS interested for a while and got a reply that "this will likely solve your problems so we will assume it does and close your case", somehtings like that. But they gave a convuluted way to reply to keep it going. I did it over and over and over and they dont answer. I have been Microshafted again. I had a Google hit on a blog that only has the Net Frame work install problem, exactly as I had it, used logic exactly as i did and it failed and he hates Windows with a passion. Get back to me if you watn to work together on this,... Look, revert to before dec 13 and wait for ms fix.
A complete install does not fix the problem. "winsleuth" <winsleuth.20zgrw@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:winsleuth.20zgrw@DoNotSpam.com... > > I seem to be at exactly the same place. My meaning was to reinstall a freshly formatted hard drive with WIndows XP Pro and then start with the updates. If your statement was correct it would mean we all have this problem and clearly we dont. That is reinforced by the fact that I find so few hits on this problem and that MS doesnt have a fix for their "inoperable updater/fixer function". I didnt mean reinstall on top of my massively overdone and burnt out current install. Most my friends agree if you use Windows alot, get used to reinstalling from 'scratch" every 18 months. As far as a fix from MS, they completely ignore the question so dont think they even know they/we have a problem. I would like to hear from the user just before my entry if you are out there, it said just three hours ago you were on as of yesterday. THanks,... Hi,
I still have the same problem. Tom's advice is useless to me too because my problem started months ago. My last successful Windows Update was in Aug 2006, so restoring to before Dec 13 will clearly not solve anything.
