Default Windows updates

I have an Acer Aspire 3500, preloaded with Windows XP Home,
I go to the windows update page and click on Express, I get a page that says
that: "Files required to use Windows upadates are no longer registered or
installed on your computer"
I click on "Register or reinstall the files for me now,(Recommended)
it show downloading and installing and shows 100% done.
Then it returns to the update page with Express or Custom, I click Express,
and I'm sent back to the "Files required to use windows updates..." again
I try again I get the same thing, over and over again.

I believe the msxml should not even be on your machine.
It was removed when my machine worked fine, but is back after going back in
time and now does not work.

the msxml is a sdk, or development kit.
If you are not a developer, why would this be on a machine?
I do think it should be.
Remnants of spyware?

registering files that are disabled for valid reasons opens yourself to
vulnerabilites.
I'm not saying not to, but you need to understand why it was disabled to
begin with and get confirmation from MS that this should be done first.

why are you registering msxml3, when msxml4 has replaced it years ago?

and if this were the cause, it would be quite interesing since MS insists it
could not be their sofwtare and has to be some other software.

Check out the "Registering MSXML 3 after Uninstalling 3rd Party
Applications" in the MSXML 3.0 SP7 Web Release Notes:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...SP_RelNote.htm

In addition, from the Windows Update Troubleshooter:
"When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the
0x80244001 error"
http://update.microsoft.com/microsof...n=en&IsMu=True

I guess MS confirms that this should be done.
