Default Windows Update

Why on earth should ANYONE have problems downloading Windows Update on a
system running WINDOWS XP...that until now was totally up to date.Am trying
to download and install the .wmf patch and all I get is FAILED
INSTALLATION.Is there someway to correct this or simply download and install
myself..I am unable to find the file in dowloads either.

Default RE: Windows Update

I am having the exact same problem.

If someone could post a list of services (besides automatic updates BITS
event log) that are needed to install this patch?

I installed the temporary fix that was floating around the net however I
removed it before trying to update from Windows Update.

I then re-registered the DLL that the Security Bulletin indicated I should
unregister.

For some reason I still cannot updates from Windows Update.

I do not see how Microsoft #1 leaves horrible security holes on peoples
machines and #2 cannot even get their website working.

Complete disgrace.

Okay I had Background Intelligent Transfer service set to Manual and I guess
there's no code that tells it to go on. It must be on Automatic.

Microsoft should make a patch so that if BITS is in manual mode it can be
auto started by Automatic Updates service.

For anyone that wants this in English (for error code 0x80246008)

goto Start - Run type "services.msc"

Automatic Updates must be Automatic and Started
Event Log must be Automatic and Started
Background Intelligent Transfer Service must be Automatic and Started.

Ty PA Bear although the Microsoft website should just tell you what the
problem is instead of making you go through 500 different pages just to get
an answer.
