MS Office

Isn't MS Office a part of the XP Home Ed bundle? I could've sworn that I had
it once, definitely did not remove it (Add/Remove), I have MS Office Tools in
Start/All Programs, and when I perform XP updates it has a critical SP3
update for it but I can't find it anywhere. Found Office10 (what the ?????)
in Programs Files/Microsoft Office. For some reason I thought Office10 came
from a XP update but after reviewing my update history I couldn't find it.

Microsoft Office is not now nor has it ever been a part of any Microsoft operating system. Many vendors do bundle MS Office as part of the software package when you buy a new PC.

Now that you mention it............ maybe this wasn't the best forum to ask
about MS Office. Never meant to suggest that it was apart of the Windows OS.
But you're right, it's a Gateway question.

But the other questions remain: When Microsoft performs it's scan of my
computer looking for available updates why does it recommend one for MS
Office?

Also, does anyone know what the Office10 folder is in C:/Program Files/MS
Office? Why do I even have an MS Office folder if I don't have the executable
(tangent)?

You originally said that you thought you previously had it on the system. Have you performed a re-installation or repair installation on this system? Have you searched for the MS Office executable files (winword.exe, excel.exe, etc)?

If it did originally come with this system, you should have some type of installation media for it or the installation files may be the hard drive somewhere.

FYI, Office 10 is the 2002 version.

Nope. No re-installs or repairs. Prior to my original posting here, I
searched all files and folders in C:\ for excel and it returned a few
Excel.xl_ Excel.xls and Excel4.xls files.

I still have Word which appears in the Start-All Programs, and is used
rather frequently. Other Office products, its been awhile. Could this play
a factor? (grasping at straws here)

I just thought of that last night (install disk). Even though I'm a bit
curious as to why it disappeaed, the bottom line is getting it reinstalled
and finding the install disk that came with this machine appears to be the
only solution.

It's a long shot, but as long as you can access Word, you might want to try the Repair feature for office. Open Word and select Help/Detect and Repair. Follow the onscreen prompts.
