fax error: connection error, fax printer is inaccessible

Need assistance in getting my fax to work. I get an error message: "Fax
printer is inaccessible, connection error." The problem started after I
inserted the Win XP disc, and I ran repair and reinstall Win XP. I have set
the fax printer as the default printer; I have set fax printer
configuration---send, yes--receive, manual. The error message does not
disappear, and the fax will not work. Need help.
