Dual booting will not make your pc run slower UNLESS both copies of Windows
are installed to the same partition. -- Larry Samuels Associate Expert MS-MVP (2001-2005) Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone "blondie" <greeneyedblonde_4u@sbcglobal.net> wrote in message news:93E5C736-EF18-473B-B914-F5097C4D10A7@microsoft.com... >i had windows me edition on my pc and i installed xp home edition and now > when i start my pc it asks me to choose if i want to use xp or me. > > so how do i get that off of here and just use xp?? > and could that make my pc run slower?? |

How many drives show up in My Computer?
If you see more than one hard drive, is there a windows folder on at least 2 of the drives? if the 2 copies are installed to separate partitions it is fairly easy to edit boot.ini to remove reference to the second OS. If they are installed to the same partition you can still remove the references, but the best bet is a clean install because you have a mixture of file versions in the system folders. -- Larry Samuels Associate Expert MS-MVP (2001-2005) Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone "blondie" <blondie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6EA17967-9E0E-47F8-B2B2-6A23883FC6F9@microsoft.com... > so how do i check and see if its installed to the same partition > and can i make it where its just xp that starts with out me doing ne thing > > "Larry Samuels" wrote: > >> Dual booting will not make your pc run slower UNLESS both copies of >> Windows >> are installed to the same partition. >> >> -- >> Larry Samuels Associate Expert >> MS-MVP (2001-2005) >> Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at >> http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm >> Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone >> "blondie" <greeneyedblonde_4u@sbcglobal.net> wrote in message >> news:93E5C736-EF18-473B-B914-F5097C4D10A7@microsoft.com... >> >i had windows me edition on my pc and i installed xp home edition and >> >now >> > when i start my pc it asks me to choose if i want to use xp or me. >> > >> > so how do i get that off of here and just use xp?? >> > and could that make my pc run slower?? >> >> >> |

Hi blondie,
You need to have just one OS or you need to have the drive partitioned and each OS installed to it's own partition. Unfortunately there is no simple step by step to doing an OS install. Well there is,but it is not something I recommend for a novice user. You can read the guide at http://winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp and see why I don't recommend attempting this yourself unless you are really comfortable with it. Sometimes it is easier (and cheaper in the long run) to take the pc to a professional to get it serviced. They can also diagnose the problems with the PC being slow while they are repairing it and make recommendations for speeding it up. -- Larry Samuels Associate Expert MS-MVP (2001-2005) Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone "blondie" <blondie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CA9814FA-D240-408C-8A52-C09841865B20@microsoft.com... > there is only one hard drive and i dont want to mess ne thing up doing > this > cause i dont know how to fix it. im blonde so if you could give me step > bye > step instructions on how to do it i might be able to do it. or do i need > to > have just one os on here or what?? > > "Larry Samuels" wrote: > >> How many drives show up in My Computer? >> If you see more than one hard drive, is there a windows folder on at >> least 2 >> of the drives? >> if the 2 copies are installed to separate partitions it is fairly easy to >> edit boot.ini to remove reference to the second OS. >> If they are installed to the same partition you can still remove the >> references, but the best bet is a clean install because you have a >> mixture >> of file versions in the system folders. >> >> >> -- >> Larry Samuels Associate Expert >> MS-MVP (2001-2005) >> Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at >> http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm >> Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone >> "blondie" <blondie@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:6EA17967-9E0E-47F8-B2B2-6A23883FC6F9@microsoft.com... >> > so how do i check and see if its installed to the same partition >> > and can i make it where its just xp that starts with out me doing ne >> > thing >> > >> > "Larry Samuels" wrote: >> > >> >> Dual booting will not make your pc run slower UNLESS both copies of >> >> Windows >> >> are installed to the same partition. >> >> >> >> -- >> >> Larry Samuels Associate Expert >> >> MS-MVP (2001-2005) >> >> Unofficial FAQ for Windows Server 2003 at >> >> http://pelos.us/SERVER.htm >> >> Expert Zone- www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone >> >> "blondie" <greeneyedblonde_4u@sbcglobal.net> wrote in message >> >> news:93E5C736-EF18-473B-B914-F5097C4D10A7@microsoft.com... >> >> >i had windows me edition on my pc and i installed xp home edition and >> >> >now >> >> > when i start my pc it asks me to choose if i want to use xp or me. >> >> > >> >> > so how do i get that off of here and just use xp?? >> >> > and could that make my pc run slower?? >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> >> |
