My Recent Documents tab on the Start Menu allows me to access recent documents from Microsoft Word, Express Stationary, even Adobe. Why won't it, or how can I, make it include recent documents I've accessed in Microsoft Excel??? I've even had a document open, done Save As and put My Recent Documents as the target site and get a message "Cannot Save to My Recent Documents." Is that gospel or is there a way?

Recent Documents should not be used as a save location. Recent Documents is a folder full of shortcuts. Those shortcuts are maintained by a history trail. Usually registered document types, including excel files (.xls), will be tracked by this history and shown in Recent Documents. For some reason they're not showing up for you. Suggestions: -A workaround is to use Excel's on list of recently open files. Open Excel and click on File> Open. You'll see a list of your recent documents at the bottom of the menu dropdown. You can use Tools> Options to increase or decrease the number of documents that are displayed. The default is 4. -You could try a repair of Excel (open program and click on Help> Repair) to re-register the document type. -If using a tweaking program of any kind, check its menus for a setting that controls what kind of documents are included (or ignored) by Recent Documents. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
