Until recently I have had absolutely not problems with my setup. I have a
“central” PC with a few external Lacie 500Gb drives attached, and these drives shared via normal XP Pro file and drive sharing. However, recently I am having problems with this, and basically after a reboot, the drives are no longer shared. I then have to share them again, and all works fine. When I share these drives, I set up access to be limited to a specific user account, with all access, and I always delete remove the “everybody” access. In the Event Viewer there is nothing out of the ordinary. Please give me some things to check, this is driving me crazy. |

A lot of snafus can occur if you tweak permissions/security settings the wrong way with this group. One way to avoid many troubles is to require passwords for user accounts as this will side step "anonymous" issues. If you visit the Windows XP Support Center here: http://support.microsoft.com and search for "everyone," you'll get a long list of more examples and issues. Here's just a few of the articles related to this topic: Group policies are not applied the way you expect; "Event ID 1058" and "Event ID 1030" errors in the application log http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314494 How to configure file sharing in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304040 Everyone Group Does Not Include Anonymous Security Identifier http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;278259 You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to access the Shared Documents folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;897103 -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
