Hello, Can someone assist me or direct me to the right place to figure out
how to control internet access for limited user accounts on windows XP. From the IE browser I go to tools, internet options, content, then content advisor and settings. Once there there are sliders for language, nudity, sex and violence. 1. If you move the sliders to the right does that restrict or allow access? 2. Once the settings are made, how do you activate them? 3. Can you allow limited users access to let's say one web site and all the subsets or redirects within that website? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

These content controls are of little use, because few websites provide a
rating. Thus, if you turn content-control on the effect is to prevent web-browsing. (This can be a useful trick sometimes to stop timewasters, but it's not what you want!) I would suggest using one of the several proxies available that allow control over content by matching words in pages, etc. Then set the proxy controls in IE to point to the proxy for the restricted user only. No filtering is 100% effective, but you can reduce the problem this way. Plus, the most effective simple tool is a proxy which blocks nothing but logs page-accesses. If the user knows they are being logged, it's surprising how well they behave! |
