Default Can't browse the Internet by typing in the URL

I find that typing in any web address (example: www.google.com) will always
resulte in a screen stating it could not be found. However, if I use any
address in my History pull down bar, the browser works fine.

History: I suffered a major attack due to not having anti virus software
enabled (stupid, I know). Then I made matters worse by trying to delete
suspect files (never let a marketing person play with your computer). I
finally did a system restore to a previous date and installed Norton
AntiVirus. However, I now have this problem and Earthlink support is useless.

Check
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\URL\Prefixes]
If there is NO data value entry for WWW, add HTTP:// as the data value.
ie: "www"="http://"

Otherwise try the IE Newsgroup

Internet Explorer – OE Client
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...er.ie6.browser
or
Web Client - General
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...&lang=en&cr=US
