We just got a new computer with Windows XP Media Center. It led us to create
a user account for each family member. One person installed a game and the computer put a shortcut on each individual's desktop. Only the person who installed the game wants the shortcut. I deleted the shortcut from my desktop, and it automatically deleted it from everyone's desktop. We're confused! It did let us each have a different wallpaper and theme, but it seems if one of us deletes certain things from our desktop, it affects all the other peoples' desktops. I have tried all the help screens and can't find out about this. Can anyone please help? Thank you! |

Normally this happens when, as the game is being installed, a window appears asking whether to install for all users or just the current user. If the person installing selects all users then the shortcut is placed in the Desktop folder of the All Users profile and all users will see it. Remove it from there and put it only in the Desktop folder for your son. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup. Thank you.. can you please tell me where I would find the "All Users"
profile? I don't see anything like that listed. It only lists the profiles of each family member. I also don't know where the desktop folders are located, I was going on to each person's account to access their desktop. Any info on the above would be appreciated! Also, if anyone can direct me to a source to read and learn about how to use the user accounts better, I would appreciate it. The help on the computer is useless, it tells you how to make accounts or set passwords, but it doesn't tell you about what things you can do just on your account account and which things affect all the users accounts. Thanks!
