Default dual operating systems

I was running windows 2000 which crashed. I installed a new version of
windows xp but 2000 is still there as an alternative at start up. How do I
uninstall 2000 to free up disk space?

You would probably have been better of doing a clean install of xp, since
the problem may not have been o/s related, and as such problem may not have
gone away.
In the mean time open boot.ini, delete ref to win2k, locate win2k folder and
delete.
You may have to repair your winxp installation.

Hi,

Open Windows Explorer, locate the remnants of the Win2K installation and
delete them. Then, go to the control panel/system/advanced tab and click on
startup and recovery settings. In the startup section click the edit button
to open boot.ini in notepad where you can remove the line that references
the Win2K installation at startup from the [operating systems] section.
Close saving changes, reboot at leisure.

It doesnt 'just install' you have to select the type of install.
boot.ini in C:\
In explorer, View, enable hidden and system files
Win2k installed by deffault as c:\winnt, the boot.ini will give path
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html
for installation help

If you didn't intentionally create the dual-boot scenario, and
inadvertently installed WinXP onto the same partition as Win2K, your
wisest course of action would be to backup your data, wipe the hard
drive, and start anew. Under normal circumstances, placing two
operating systems in the same partition is a recipe for disaster. A
careful, knowledgeable specialist can do this safely, for a short time,
but the ordinary PC user had better be backing up his data on a daily basis.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Kevin
You can do it by delete the extra partition. Just go to "Control Panel"
Click on "Administrative Tools" Under the window, click on "Computer
Management"
then click on "Disk Management" to delete or create a new partition.

*If you still experiencing the problem, let me know as soon as possible!
