While surfing the web I received a message warning of a spyware infection
occurring and was prompted to download and run anti-spyware software. A banner advising me of the potential infection appeared in the center of the desktop. After running Microsoft Antisoftware the taskbar notification of infection stopped appearing and daily runnings of the software show no further infection but the banner on the desktop does not leave and all attempts to change the background are without success. The scroll bar in the display icon is inactive as are the few selections that show. How can I delete the current and distracting background. |

Start cleaning with Dave Lipman's tool as per his instructions: David Lipman's tool - http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/SmitFraud.exe Instructions: Execute SmitFraud.exe (Note: You must accept the default of C:\McAfee) Choose Unzip Choose Close NOTE: You may have to disable your software firewall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your firewall to enable WGET.EXE to download the needed McAfee-related files. Execute c:\mcafee\clean.bat (or Double-click on 'Clean Link' in c \mcafee) A final report in HTML format called C:\mcafee\ScanReport.HTML will be generated. At the end of the scan, it will be displayed in your browser (Opera, FireFox or Internet Explorer). It is suggested that you move the report out of c:\mcafee before performing another scan. *** If you need more, then here are two other tools with links to removal information: Secured2K's SpyAxe, PSGuard, Smitfraud, Sinnaka and Alemod removal tool (from Mark Brown) http://secured2k.home.comcast.net/tools/AntiPuper.exe http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=65072 noahdfear's SmitFraud and SpyAxe removal tool - http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click...click.php?id=8 References - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic36868.html http://malwareremoval.com/plog/index...Id=48&blogId=3 For general malware removal: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!"
