Default Screen Saver Deesn't Work

I have a new Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook with Windows XP Home version 2002
and SP2 installed. Everything works fine except I cannot get the screensaver
to work when the computer is plugged in. It works fine when on battery
power. It will also preview when plugged in but never comes on. I don't
know if this is an XP issue or something unique to Dell. Any help or ideas
are certainly appreciated.

Have you checked the system clock? If may not be running properly.
Start>Control Panel>Date and Time to see if it is running. After you
set the time interval for the screensaver, did you click Apply and then OK?
Click the Power button in Display Properties and see that turn off harddisk
is set to "Never".

Thanks for the suggestions Byte. I have confirmed that the system clock is
set and running properly. Also the hard drive is set to "never". I have
even tried some of the other configurations available under the power tab
without luck adn tried varying the time until the screen saver should come
on. I would be inclined to suspect this module in my OS is corrupted if it
weren't for the fact that it works fine on battery power.

Byte, your suggestions got me t thinking and checking some other things and I
have determined that my diagnosis is not entirely accurate. Long story
short, I am using a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard/Mouse with this computer
while in my office. The screen saver will not come on when the Keyboard is
plugged in (USB). So, I'll be invvestigating that. I appears to not be
relatd to battery vs plugged in power.
