Ron,
How do I tell if it is an "Installation CD" vs. a "system recovery" CD? What I thought was an Installation Windows XP CD did not work when I tried it in the disk drive during bootup. I pressed to F12 function key at the DELL screen and verified that it was to boot from the disc drive. The disc drive light lit up, but nothing occurred. It keeps showing the winlogon.exe error message along with the services.exe error. Do I need a bootup disk like with Windows 95/98 for XP? It just will NOT boot up in either Safe Mode or normal mode. Ron,
Disredard my questions about what CD I have. I found the "correct" operating system reinstallation CD. MY BAD :>{ Re-installation seems to have worked. I'm going out tomorrow and buying the newest version of Norton Antivirus. I also ordered the SP2 CD from the MS webpage. When that baby gets here, I will be applying that. I have printed out instructions for doing so from the MS webpage. Thanks to all who offered assistance. I now know how little I know about windows. Thanks Again!!!
