Russ, check for a CD in the cdrom drive. If there remove it. You can try
a System Restore from Safe Mode. On next Startup tap F8 until you get a Menu. Select Safe Mode. If XP boots up go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Just follow the instructions. "Russ" <scwruss@cox.net> wrote in message news:ejYQ7VW5FHA.3588@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > Can't open "My Computer" .The flashlight continually searches> > |

Hi Russ,
A common problem usually alleviated by disabling Windows Image Acquisition on the services tab of msconfig. HP's solution is for the user to throw away their perfectly good hardware
and buy brand new ones. The problem is caused by incompatible (or more accurately, non-compliant) drivers. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Gerry Cornell" <gcjc@tenretnitb.com> wrote in message news:eNv$%23vg5FHA.628@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > Rick > > Do Microsoft ever check whether HP to see whether updated drivers or > software resolve the problem? > > -- > > > Regards. > > Gerry > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > FCA > > Stourport, Worcs, England > Enquire, plan and execute. > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > > > "Rick "Nutcase" Rogers" <rick@mvps.org> wrote in message > news:OFxLaUZ5FHA.1032@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... >> Hi Russ, >> >> A common problem usually alleviated by disabling Windows Image >> Acquisition on the services tab of msconfig. >> >> Long delay before files appear in My Computer in Windows XP >> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=819017 >> >> -- >> Best of Luck, >> >> Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP >> http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ >> Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone >> www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone >> Windows help - www.rickrogers.org >> >> "Russ" <scwruss@cox.net> wrote in message >> news:ejYQ7VW5FHA.3588@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... >>> Can't open "My Computer" .The flashlight continually searches> >>> >> >> > |

Rick
I have some sympathy with that point of view but nevertheless HP do make available some updated drivers and software. If the model is current and a new driver is needed they would eventually lose market share by not protecting sales of older but current models. At least I would say that logical to presume but perhaps you know otherwise. I have several HP products where I have downloaded updates. Does the review of a Knowledge Base encompass the check I suggested? -- Regards. Hi Gerry,
> Does the review of a Knowledge Base encompass the check I suggested? Not that I am aware of. HP simply doesn't care about providing proper drivers. Some they release work, some don't. If not, their attitude is "Oh well, guess you need newer hardware". I have experienced this first hand on a number of occasions. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Gerry Cornell" <gcjc@tenretnitb.com> wrote in message news:O$0YOgl5FHA.3544@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > Rick > > I have some sympathy with that point of view but nevertheless HP do make > available some updated drivers and software.
