I mean Outlook and not Outlook Express. That means it is not a news message.
It is a mail message with already downloaded attachement.
I can save it using right click and this shows that I have already
downloaded the attachement.

You can't drag n drop because it's still an attachment, part of the email.
It has to be saved to your computer first before you can drag n drop.

I have been using XP Pro since it had been launched for the first time and
on more than 15 computers (separate licenced installations I mean).
I have always used drag and drop for mail attachements. Let me explain it:
You have Outlook 2003 in front of you. To the left there is the list of your
folders. In the middler you can see the messages and on the right you have
the reading pane. On the reading pane, under the title you can see a line
starting with "Attachements" and listing all the attachements of this email.
If you double click on any of them you can open this attachement. If you
drag it with your mouse to any folder or to desktop you can simply copy it
to this destination. This is a standart way for dealing with attachements.
If you use Outlook you can try it by yourself to see what I mean...

I understand completely what Sumer is trying to describe. I got used to
work with Drag&Drop from an Outlook email message to any of the folders
on my computer. In fact, it does work on other computers flawlessly.
Whenever I drag the attachment (doc, image, etc.) to a folder, it does
not copy it to that folder. Instead, it appears on a particular folder:
X:\Document and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\OLKxx (xx stands for a changing characters). You can delete the
folder, but a new folder with a different name will appear instead of
this one.

I had a deep investigation of this and still was not able to solve
this.
Look carefully inside your Registry (run "regedit") and you will find a
special string value named "OutlookSecureTempFolder" under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\O utlook\Security key
which contains the path of this folder, and yes, if you attempt to
delete/change that value, it will always be changed back mysteriously.

I really miss that function and I know it is solvable.
I tried repairing/reinstalling Office (not uninstalling and
reinstalling), but to no avail.

I hope I have clarified the issue and glad I'm not the only one.

Can we get any help with it ? I'll appreciate it very much.

I also would like to add some important information: when I drag the
email message itself to one of the folders, the action succeeds and I
see a .MSG file in that folder.
I get the same result when dragging a contact from an email I have sent
(I've created an email message and attached contacts to it to send to
one of my friends) - I end up with a .MSG file of that contact in the
same folder I dropped it.

I hope this will shed light to lead us to a solution.

When I have the necessary time, I will uninstall Office 2003 completely and
remove all related registry entries then reinstall it.
