I am moving into a new laptop that has XP Pro SP2 on it. My old laptop
(also XP-Pro SP2) is still available and it contains zillions of stuff... Most of the interesting things are now moved by copying the appropriate items from one PC to the other. But one thing is really bugging me and this is the I transfer of all of my 93 dialup entries with all settings intact... I have googled for hours but only found useless advice such as exporting a registry key to get the settings. Well, the registry key suggested did not even contain the dialup entries... The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard does *not* have an item for dialup transfer so that is out too... When I moved last then I had an NT4 or possibly W2000 rasphone.pbk file that contained all of these items, but it looks like XP keeps dialups in a different way. Where??? Is there *really* no way to move these connection items over??? Bo Berglund bo.berglund(at)nospam.telia.com |

See my answer in microsoft.public.wondowsxp.setup_deployment. Basically, make one connectoid and replicate it 97 times, each time changing the telephone number. Ha det... *TimDaniels* |

But I have now found how to get *all* of the entries transferred: 1. Copy %systemroot%\system32\ras\pasphone.pbk to the same location on the new PC. 2. Restart the new PC (this was a step I did not know was needed) After the PC comes back up again it will register the new connections and modify the modem settings, most probably the modem in the new PC is not the same as in the old one. This took a couple of minutes in my case. 3. Now with the connectoids in place I tried one and it turns out that all info is there *except* the user/password login combination. So if there are many connections all with different logins and passwords then there is a lot of work still to do. But anyway the basic stuff has been done by the rasphone.pbk file transfer. Sharon - when I check the C:\system32\ras folder in my WinXP Pro machine, I see only the files: cis.scp pad.inf pppmenu.scp slip.scp slipmenu.scp switch.inf and no "rasphone.pbk" file. Do you know where else it might be? I've tried a search on the name and the suffix, but nothing turns up. *TimDaniels* |

You're looking in the wrong folder. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Thanks, Sharon. I was looking in the folder that Bo Berglund
had mentioned. I wonder how his rasphone.pbk file got into the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ras folder. It sounds like a reasonable place for it to be. Is that a temporary storage for the file? *TimDaniels* "Sharon F" wrote: > On Fri, 18 Nov 2005 00:26:04 -0800, Timothy Daniels wrote: > >> Sharon - when I check the C:\system32\ras folder in my >> WinXP Pro machine, I see only the files: >> cis.scp >> pad.inf >> pppmenu.scp >> slip.scp >> slipmenu.scp >> switch.inf >> >> and no "rasphone.pbk" file. Sorry, I don't know how or why Bo's .pbk files are in that folder and I don't have a dialup modem on this computer to investigate further. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
