Default Re: Windows error message

Glo

Before trying again reboot your machine and do not load any programmes
e.g. Internet Explorer etc. Then select start, Run, type "regsvr32
shodocvw.dll" without the quotes and hit ENTER. Note the time and if it
gives a fail message look in Event Viewer for any messages two minutes
before and after the error occurred and post a copy here.

Where are you with regard to downloading and installing Windows updates?

Hope this helps.

Default Re: Windows error message

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information about your
computer:
Everest Home Edition (freeware)
http://www.lavalys.hu/index.php

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight required
text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this is fine for
posting small amounts of information into newsgroup messages longer
reports will irritate other newsgroup subscribers.

In Everest place the cursor on Software select Report, Quick Report,
Plain Text, click on Send in Email and change the entry in the To box to
my address, which is given below removing dump from the address.

Hi Gerry
I sent a email to Medion, waiting for a reply, I thought you sent the
message until I looked a while ago and realised it was from someone else, I
thought you must have had enough with this Anyway I went into that msconfig
again and left all the ticks except Load start-up items and the error
messages don't appear. Could I leave the machine as it is in selective start
up or will I have some errors somewhere else? Did you find any faults from
the information I emailed to you?
Cheers

No. Still interested. I was waiting to hear from you. Your email did not
arrive. Try sending again taking care to remove dump from the address I
gave you.

Your discovery using a Selective StartUp is interesting. Below is a
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article about using msconfig to Troubleshoot.
In essence now you have what boots with no problems starting adding
items back one at a time rebooting each time you add one back. You will
reach a point where the problem reappears and know then which item
causes problems. Uncheck that item and continue adding items one by one
rebooting after each addition to see whether you have any items causing
problems.

When you have isolated the problem item come back here.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310353

It is not a good idea to run a computer on a selective boot setting.

I looked Medion and my reaction was that it was someone with an interest
in the web site on a membership recruitment drive.

Hi Gerry
I have just emailed you the report you wanted, let me know if you got it. I
started doing that selective start up and when I put ctfmon back on the box
came up at start up to put it all back to normal start up. Then when I tried
adding the next one, which was one of those lines with the boxed, two error
messages came up like before. So I put it back to normal start up and the 4
error messages appear as before. So how can I delete them? Also I still get
error sending messages evertime I leave the internet which once or twice
gives me a quick view of a solution but goes off screen before I can do
anything. I keep sending them to microsoft but I am just going in circles.
I hope the email helps you to find the problem, hope to hear from you soon.

What is the name of the item you added backed which generated the
errors?

Can you see the messages in the boxed, two error messages? If yes what
do they say?

Look in Event Viewer for the Error Reports ( System tab ) at the date
and time they last occurred.

Don't be fussy over a minute or two but ignore any messages from before
you restarted. Please post a copy here You can access Event Viewer by
selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching
the
meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and
Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of
the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after
exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Default Re: Windows error message

I
will include the two messages I receive after the computer starts and the
welcome comes up then the desktop and straight after that the first box
appears. It has five boxes at the left hand side in a straight line and the
message reads. Windows cannot find (it has two boxes in a straight line).
Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a
file, click start button then click search.
The second box reads: Desktop as the title on the left hand side and iis
starts the message with a yellow triangle stating. Could not run or load
then two boxes in a line. specified in the registry. Make sure the file
exits on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.
This is the only errors I get except for the error reporting to microsoft
everytime I leave the internet. I hope this helps as I can't find anymore
information.
