Hi,
XP Pro, SP2+, 2.6 GHz, 512 RAM, av & spyware up to date, system clean as near as I can tell. Does anyone know -why- a file named MTS20.exe would be present in the Temporary Internet Files folder? I realize it's some sort of a container for exporting functions, and I -was- using OmniPage Pro 10 prior to discovering it. But how it got into the temp files folder is beyond me. I discovered it because OP10 screwed up on me. Just for GPs, I ran the Disk Cleanup utility and it kept locking up at about the same point every time. Unsure why, I did a CHKDSK and the "normal" system checks - all seemed OK except I couldn't clean the disk. One file in particular, www.canadianhomeworkshop.Shtml (zero reason for that to be an S html), would not delete. No error message when I clicked Delete, but it would still be there after refreshes. NO other files were present, even after making sure none were hidden, system, readonly, etc., and besides my setup should show hidden files. So, I went in with a Command Prompt window and lo and behold, there were OTHER directories and files there that Explorer wasn't showing me! I went ahead and started using Del *.* and RD to remove the files and directories until I got to the top, the Temp inet Files folder. There I could not delete www.canadianhomeworkshop.Shtml and that's when I noticed mts20.exe there also. Neither one would delete, even from the DOS prompt. I can't rename it, delete it, or do anything with it. Properties shows nothing but the URL in the top of the dialog. It's still there, and also in: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Caere\Export\mts20.exe with a Created date of 1999. An mtso.exe, with a 2002 date, exists in the dll cache. ?? I'm not sure what to even ask here; Google shows nothing for mts20, but does find mtso. Anyone have any thoughts or comments? Or is there a better place to ask about this? TIA PopS -- --- If it ain't broke, keep on fixing it; it will be soon! |

There should be a description on both General and Version tabs.
Right click mtso.exe | Properties | Version tab Click a category on the left to display the information on the right. Other version information Item Name: Company File Version Internal Name Language Original File Name Product Name Product Version Should be some kind of clue if mtso.exe is a legitimate file. What do your antivirus and anti-spyware applications have to say about mtso.exe? It generally doesn't matter what the heck is in the Temporary Internet Files as long as you clean them out periodically. To delete *all* Temporary Internet Files... 1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | OK Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop. Or: Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options. Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially if there are a large number of files. 2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files 3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >> %homepath%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files AND %homepath%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)} 4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files 5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive. -- Hope this helps.
