Please help! My Windows XP machine is suiciding!
Yesterday I noticed that about 5 shortcuts on my desktop have no icon associated to them. Then I checked the Program Files folder and saw that all files in their corresponding folders are deleted, but folders themselves are not deleted. Anyway I spent about 2 hours and re-installed those mysteriously deleted programs. This morning when I boot up my computer I noticed that another 4 programs have been deleted in the same way (including one of the programs which I re-installed yesterday). I am using AVG anti virus and is up to date. So I don't think it is a virus. I also tried lat night to use System Restore, but none of restore points worked. Please also note that at bootup machine tries to load a program called "TrayApp" , and continues to try and load after cancel is pushed several times, and goes into error message 1706. Any help would be appreciated |

Have you got an HP printer? Boot your computer with the HP disk, and allow
it to install whatever it is you uninstalled. That should take care of the TrayApp problem As for the rest, just because your AV programs didn't find anything, that doesn't mean your pc is free of crap-ola. You might think about getting some on line scans, Pest Patrol, Micro Trend's House Calls, are a couple of good ones..you need I.E. for those..they are free and find many things that other programs miss. Also, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Se, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and Spyware Blaster are programs no one should be without. Yes I had HP Camera. I put HP CD yesterday and fixed this TrayApp problem.
But it came back this morning with the same problem! Forget about TrayApp! I think this is just one of the programs which is deleting automatically by some virus or ??? Some people recommend 2 - 3 AV program scans.

Hi Sid,
Try going to Start - Run - type in "msconfig" without the quotes. Click on the StartUp tab and uncheck any apps related to the TrayApp program.
