Default dvd/cd drive problem

Hi all,

If I insert a cd/dvd with (say) file 1 and file 2 on it, I then change the
disk to another. The drives do not recognise the newly inserted disk still
showing the files from the first. This happens on both drives. Samsung and
Pioneer 109. Can anyone help. It's very frustrating. Have tried view/refresh
to no avail. Also I notice autoplay has not been working for some time but I
cannot remember if it ever did!!

Thanks

Tony

According to Microsoft's article
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q314939
this was fixed in Service Pack 1. Are you up to date on your service
packs?

Have you got AutoPlay turned off? That _shouldn't_ affect auto insert
notification (showing contents of new disc), but maybe it does. I've
spent significant time just now googling, and have been unable to
find a clear answer on that point.

Stan,

Thanks for reply. Have service pack 2 installed and automatic updates
selected, but the fault in the article you quote from ms is exactly what I
have. I cannot fix it at all. Most infuriating. Any other ideas
appreciated!!!!!

Somehow I overlooked that crucial sentence in your earlier message.

Have you gone through the procedure to re-enable autoplay? While Web
sites seem a little confused about the difference between Auto-Insert
Notification and Autoplay, "no autoplay" is relatively easy to fix,
and you may find your refresh problem goes away as a side effect.

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
is one good source -- note there are _three_ tips on Autoplay but I
think number 10 is the one you want.

The other thing I'd do is check in your BIOS. It would be unusual,
but perhaps there's some setting in there about polling the drive for
disk changes.
