Out of the blue, my Win XP Pro machine stopped playing system sounds. The
volume control icon no longer appears in the system tray and the "play" button is greyed out when I go to Control Panel>>Sounds.. CD and .WAV audio plays fine with Quicktime and Windows Media Player. I've tried reinstalling the sound driver but the problem still exists. Any ideas? |

Scott, check at Kelly's http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

Scott, you may have a corrupted Profile. Try creating a new user profile
and see if the sounds work Ok.
