Default Renaming of Folders Problem

Since computer meltdown and new hard drive, reinstall of XP Home and SP2 and
all current updates, I cannot rename or delete any folders. I can create them
no problem but when I try to rename or delete system freezes and Dr Watson
pop-up appears. Anyone come across this before? As I am setting the system
back up from scratch I want to get it running right before I reload any of my
data!!!!!

Any advice much appreciated

Thanks

Default RE: Renaming of Folders Problem

Hi

I have not come across it before.
What folders are you trying to rename or delete? I think Windows System
folders cannot be renamed. I think you can only rename My Document files and
folders.
Did you try to go into Safe Mode and try to rename and delete files in there?

Hope this helps you.

Default RE: Renaming of Folders Problem

Thanks Egan. I have now resolved the problem by reinstalling XP and refusing
the SP2 update. The problem seems to be with one of the windows updates which
is applied to SP2. I reinstalled XP and it was fine. Reinstalled SP2 and it
was fine. Reinstalled all updates and the problem reappeared. System would
not let me recover to system restore point which I had created prior to
installing SP2 so I gave up and started again. System now running sweet.

Thanks anyway
