Default Copying NTUser.DAT question

Hi Guys

I am having some difficulty in locating some desktop customization registry
settings, saving them to a *.reg file and then using them on a new OS build
(specifically turning on the Quick Launch Bar). I have come up with a cunning
plan, but I am not sure how ‘safe’ it actually is.

On a new OS build with no software or drivers, make the necessary changes
and make a copy of the NTUser.DAT file. I have tested this on the same system
by creating a new user copying the NTUser.DAT over the existing one and the
changes do happen.

On a new OS build, simply copy the same file. The question: is this safe to
do on various PC systems? MS says that only user settings are stored in the
NTUser.DAT/HKCU, but is this really the case? Can I put a NTUser.DAT file on
a Dell PC and a HP PC?

Any comments welcome.

Cheers

Adam.
