Help!
I discovered by accident today that all my scheduled tasks (such as some important nightly backups) were no longer working. On examination, the Set Password box was empty for each one. I entered and confirmed them all - but on later re-opening Properties, the password is blank again. FWIW, the Run As box contains TERRY\Terry. How can I fix this please? -- Terry, West Sussex, UK |

Although I made progress since my post last night, I'm still hoping to get some help on this please. Here's a screenshot: http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/I...chedTasks1.gif After changes in Services, I was able to set the password and it appeared to 'stick', with ***** in the boxes. And I was pleased to find that I was then able to get the scheduled task running. But on rebooting my PC, I'm surprised to see the password (and confirmation) boxes *empty* again! Yet that task still seems to run. So, could someone please check and see if their boxes are also empty? If it's OK for them to be empty, that seems odd: how can you tell you have set them? But if it *works*, I'll relax <g>. -- Terry, West Sussex, UK |

Yes, my password and user fields are *empty* even with a password/user set in these fields. -- William |

When I had a similar problem on WinXP (wanted to run task without a
user/pw) I found and used the tweak from kelleys-korner http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_s.htm Scan down the page for 'Scheduled Tasks - Applying/Running tasks without a password' Worked fine for me. |

Thanks for taking the trouble, William. So it looks as if I have it sorted. But I'd be interested if anyone knows any more about this please. Specifically, apart from testing a task (or waiting for it to fail), how can you be sure it is set up OK? Mine were empty yesterday too, and hadn't been working for two weeks. The only visible difference (now they are working OK), is that if I re-enter my password, close and re-open, then asterisks are present. That is, until a reboot, when they disappear again! -- Terry, West Sussex, UK |

No it is not excellent. Anyone in the world will be able to log into your computer (Schedule Tasks is treated as an external user) if you have an well known account name without a password.
