When I goto save a file how do I set the file save window so that it displays
in "details" view and also so that it displays the list of files and folders sorted from z to a instead of the a to z default. Thanks! |

Maybe not what your looking for...
But if you have 1 or 2 folders you "save to" when downloading, you can rename the folder by adding the "!" (exclamation point) as the first character of the folder name and the folder will always stay at the top of the folder list. Listed a-z order. Other keyboard characters not letters or numbers will always appear before letters and numbers. That is when sorted alpha a-z order. I do this quit often and I find it helpful with the simple things. Hope this is useful ! Thanks Richard! You're right it's not quite what I'm looking for but I can
see that it would work in certain instances. I know how to set the default views for folders however I'm kinda stuck on this one with the "save as" box view. I'll post the resolution (if I get one) here. Thanks again! There isn't one.

Bill,
From my experience, If I right-click and "save-as" a file from a web page that is not an image file, my system will always default to the last folder I downloaded to. The "save-to" window is displayed in "detail view". My belief is that because the target folder was set via Windows Explorer to view details and that the "save-to" window uses the same view as set by the folder options in Windows Explorer. (as opposed to internet explorer) On the other hand, if I right-click an image file on a web page, the "save-to" window will revert to the "My Documents>My Pictures" folder by default, (this will stick until I close the browser window. The "My Pictures" folder is set to view thumbnails, hence (maybe) causing the "save-to" window to use the folders view options... Thumbnails. Really don't know this.... only guessing. Maybe we could open our "My Documents>My Pictures" folder and change the folder options to view details. Somewhere in the advanced folder settings, there is a setting where you can let the OS know what type of data will be stored in the folder. Whether it be Images, Music or just general data files. If we set a folder to be used for Images. Then everytime we open that folder, the default view will be Thumbnails. If we set the folder to be used for Music files. Then Windows Explorer will add some columns along the top (detailed view) such as Artist, Album Name, Track duration and so on and so on. A) Maybe setting the "My Documents>My Pictures" folder for misc or general file types will fix your issue. B) Maybe via Registry editor, we can change the system default download or "save-as" default folder for image files. - Maybe someone else can add to this thought? (I really don't know) (food for thought)... C) To add to your question, I would like to know how to add my own folder to the list of target locations that shows-up at the left side of the "save-as" window. Currently "Desktop", "My Documents" and I think there are a few other location options here to choose from. (non of which I ever use). But then, maybe as David replied, we just can't get there from here...! I've never really tried any of my own suggestions, I've always just lived with it. Maybe I'll try some of this tonight and post what I find tomorrow.
