Default Start / Recent Documents

Hi all,
On my Start Menu / Properties / Advanced
I can't seem to set the "Show Recent Documents"' on the Start Menu.
I have checked the "list my recently opened documents checkbox", said
O.K., backed out by clicking apply & O.K., opened several documents,
re-booted, but the Recent Documents menu is MIA.
What am I missing here?
Thanks,
Treeman
