Default Videoconferencing Requirements???

I'd like to get into videoconferencing so I can stay in touch with my sons -
who are all over the country (USA). Would someone recommend some good
cameras and software? Also, what Internet speed should I have to get a
fairly good picture? I use COX cable and my average speed is about 1.5
kilobytes per second. I couldn't find a newsgroup for this subject.
Thanks..........

Try alt.comp.periphs.webcam there are many that could be more advised.

Bobby

The cheapest way is to use Yahoo Messenger as the videoconferencing
software, and Logitech make some reasonable webcams..

For Yahoo Messenger.. http://www.yahoo.com ..

To get Messenger, click on the Messenger icon found in the top right corner
of the Yahoo home page..

For webcams..
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...id=2170,ad=hmf

Cable should be able to handle a webcam, but they are quite heavy on local
computer resources too..

Thanks, I installed Yahoo! Messenger. Now I have to purchase a camera.
Until then, can a user videoconference with more than one person at a time?
Also, do I need earphones?

No.

Only if you don't want to use speakers. That said, earphones will make
it easier for the person to understand you as the speakers will create
an echo and static.

I haven't tried it but, supposedly, SKYPE is a better video conferencing
tool than Yahoo or MSN Messenger.

No, it's the way to bring up Netmeeting. That said, if you have XP Home,
I don't believe it's installed by default.

I take that back. I just tried it on a Home computer and typing "conf"
without the quotes, in Run, brings up the Netmeeting wizard.

Yahoo Messenger allows for multiple voice, typing and webcam images.. MSN
Messenger has the restrictions on how many can use voice..
