It's all good now.

Thanks.

So how did you get the desktop into detail view? I've tried changing 'Mode' under:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desk top"

without any luck.

Just Curious,
Keith

Try resetting your folder views then. Normally the symptoms are the common task pane showing. What you did added the registry key that something deleted. The common task pane doesn't use saved settings so it disappers next boot.

I've made my desktop like yours. So I can duplicate it.
The desktop is wierd in detail view.

Resetting does 90% of the settings. Post back if you need to do the other 10%.

Copied a whole bags/number/shell key from shell to desktop (the equiv of Shell) in ShellNoRoam. I did it while explorer wasn't running so it wouldn't undo my changes.

As a result I can no longer size active desktop items. Note it should have come up in tile mode but I don't think the desktop NSE can do tiles.

I have two user accounts on my system--OS is XP-Home2002-SP2.

When I add or delete a shortcut icon, it shows on, or deletes off of BOTH
desktops.

I'd like to be able to add an icon to each of the desktops independent of
one another.

The icons you seen the Desktop come from these two locations:

%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop
%USERPROFILE%\Desktop

%ALLUSERSPROFILE% is the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users folder
%USERPROFILE% is C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User name}

The first location above is common to all the users, and any addition and
deletion of files will be seen by other users as well. The 2nd location is
specific to your profile only. Changes to the folder will not affect the
other accounts.
