Default Folder Closing Down

Ello All

System: Asus A7V8X-X mb, 1024 memory, Asus Geforce FX5200 graphics
card, Athlon XP 2000 processor.
I am posting for help on an issue that has me baffled. My PC is set up
running Windows XP Pro SP1 (Patched using XP Autopatcher) on a Maxtor
Diamond Max 9 160GB IDE HD, I also run a Western Digital 120GB IDE HD
as a slave drive to this. My Western Digital Slave Drive is being used
for my music collection on my PC. I decided to customise the folder
views on the slave drive, so I have genres of music folders and then
inside these seperate band folders within each genre. I have been
applying thumnail pictures of each band to each seperate band folder,
this was all going ok but last night one of the genre folders (the
biggest) started giving me problems whenever I click on it to enter it.
On entering the genre folder to view the band folders inside, it begins
to show these folders, then the genre folder shuts itself down, my
desktop icons dissapear for a second or two, then the desktop icons
refresh but the genre folder that was open has closed itself down. The
genre folder in question has 26 sub folders all with thumbnails of the
bands on each folder, is this too many thumnails to use inside a folder
and is thus causing the folder to crash? Is there a setting I can apply
to allow me to have as many subfolders with thumbnail pics as I want?
Hope someone can shed some light on this as it's becoming a pain,
thanks in advance.
