I have a too much loaded computer and willing to re-install XP, starting
from scratch by formatting drive C:.
However I do not a Windows XP Pro full version, only the upgrade.
Questions : How can I format drive C: from Windows, if all possible ?
How can I install upgrade version if drive will be empty
and has no former Windows installation to compare to ?

Unless you have an old Microsoft Windows 98 or 2000 CD,
you won't be able to perform a clean install with only an
Upgrade Version of Windows XP...you'll need to purchase
a "Full Version".

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to
accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the
existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).

The requirement to use an upgrade version is to *own* a previous qualifying
version's installation CD, not to have it installed. As long as you have an
installation CD of Windws 95 or later, you're OK. When setup doesn't find a
previous qualifying version installed, it will prompt you to insert its CD
as proof of ownership. Just insert the previous version's CD, and follow the
prompts. Everything proceeds quite normally and quite legitimately.

Carey, I've always been curious about whether the 2000 cd would be accepted
by XP Home Upgrade edition as a qualifying product. Of course Home cannot
upgrade an installation of 2000, but I have never tried using the 2000 cd to
meet the requirement during a clean install using a Home Upgrade edition.
Just curious if it would work the same as a Win95 cd does.
