Dear all, is there an option within Windows where users can speed up the
response of the programs, and therefore avoid the delay before Word & Excel (either a program or a document) open? Please help me have my Word & Excel open instantly. My Power Point opens instantly, but Word and Excel take around ten seconds to open. I have Toshiba A15-S127 with 756 MB of RAM. The machine uses Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz. I have recently deleted my hard disk and installed Windows XP 2002 Home Edition – Service Pack # 1 again, in order to have Word and Excel open instantly, and Microsoft Office Professional just after this; Word and Excel started responding excellent – instantly, until I installed McAfee and Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta. After this Word and Excel started responding significantly slower, but Power Point did not slow down – continued ti respond instantly. Thank you very much, Babaroga -- Please share your knowledge. |

It is probably your virus scanner. Check your virus program's settings.

Try Perfect Disk or Diskeeper to prefetch files opened most often; XP itself
should do this anyway, but PD or DK10.00 would do this better - they say. Might be also that if you open a word or Excel file rather than the programs themselves, Office requests a virus scan for the file to be opened - check you Word etc Security settings.
