Screen Saver May Not Start in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;326719 Troubleshooting Screen Saver Issues in XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_s.htm#ss Posting from another user by the name of David: ”I figured out what the problem is. It's the Microsoft Wireless Mouse. If I switch the mouse to one with a tail the screensaver works.” then David posted again ”I got a fix. I changed to connection to the computer using the USB to PS2 adapter that came with the mouse. Now I get the screensaver. I would be interested to find out why this works.” Another checkpoint - make sure that a program is not causing the computer to remain active. You may have a program running in the background that springs into life when the computer is idle. -- =========================== TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2006 =========================== tutunene wrote: > I can't get my screen saver on my brand new Dell Dimension E510 to > work. Eliminating the space character from the screen saver filenames fixed the screensaver startup problem on my XP Home installation. (Per other posts, Power DVD and/or wireless mouse was not my problem.) If your screen saver filename(s) contain space character(s), make copies of all associated files in their same folder(s). Files generally reside in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Edit each copy’s filename to eliminate space characters. Do not alter or delete the original files. If there is a .log or other text file that contains associated paths and/or filenames, edit this file also. Select the new filename in the Display Properties Screen Saver drop down list. Perhaps it will work properly this time. |
