The link above goes to the HP laptop update page. Scroll down to find the Operating System - Enhancements and QFEs . I am confused. There are several for SP2. Do I need to download all of them and install them? There was a bios update, but the difference between the new one and old one
was only 2 months. I just flashed the bios to make sure. I also got one of the several xp sp2 enhancement downloads for SP2 from the HP support website. Let's see what that does. I'll be back in touch in a few days. Do I need to download all of them and install them? I don't know, I haven't updated any HPs. There are a few people in here who do, Malke is one that comes to mind. She might see this and hop in. If unsure chat with a tech support person. -- Rock MS MVP Windows - Shell/User |

I got the chat at HP online. He told me which one to get. It sure was
confusing. There was about 20 of them and they were all dated 04-05. Couldn't tell if they were cumulative of not. But I am confident I got the right sp2 patch--although HP does not call it a patch. Check this out. Here is a screen shot of what is happening to me:
http://tinypic.com/j0cy2t.jpg The All Programs menu will not open either. I have to reboot to get the blacked out part to go away and to get the menu to work right again. I have all the patches from the HP site and have run windows update. There are no errors or warnings in the Event Viewer on the day this happened, and the errors that were in there from a few days before were all related to the DHCP. The problem does seem to be related to my wireless network. I notice that when I disable the wireless network in the systray that this problem occurs. But it could have been a coincidence, and I have noticed this only twice. Disconnect all peripherals and the wireless network. Run it as bare as possible to see what happens. -- Rock MS MVP Windows - Shell/User |

Do NOT tolerate anything that forces reboot! Suggest try this... 1) Navigate to "AllUsers\Start Menu\Programs" in Explorer, OK? 2) Navigate to user profile "Start Menu\Programs" in Explorer, OK? 3) If Yes and Yes, navigate to Control Panel and do this... - Taskbar and Start Menu icon - Start Menu tab - select Classic, OK This may avoid the whole mess, and you lose nothing useful - the new Start Menu UI is there for those who can't maintain the normal Start Menu and end up with it too cluttered to use, because dumb-ass apps add thier entries on a per-vendor basis, etc. >--------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - First, the good news: Customer feedback has been clear and unambiguous. >--------------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - |
