I received a USB 2.0 Flash Drive for Christmas. I know little to nothing
about it.
I use my computer mostly for Photography. Is there a way to store
pictures directly from the camera to this device?
It is a 512MB.
Any help will be appreciated.

That would depend on support for that on the cameras side.
In short - doubtful.

I've never seen it, almost w/o exception, digital cameras only accept flash
memory in the form of SD (Secure Digital), xD, MMC, etc., never USB pen
drive. Can only store indirectly, USB drive <-> digital camera via 'puter.

I very much doubt that you can. All the digital camera I have ever seen
store pictures via those small card devices such as Compact Flash and Secure
Digital [two examples of about 20 different names/types]. None I have seen
have a USB port.
In short, I would say that you will have to stick the flash drive in a
computer USB port and then read the camera card output to your computer via
a reader device. You may then transfer the pictures to the flash drive.
Sounds much more difficult than it really is to do.

Hi Dick,
I have read all the other repsonses and I agree.

My response may not directly answer your question, but is just a few
thoughts on the side. My wife and I use our digital cameras and PCs quite a
lot together, and photography is her major use of her PC, so I hope this
helps.

I find our USB Flash Drive (or thumb drive, whatever the terminology is) a
very useful device to use in conjunction with our digital cameras. Sure, as
another person replied, you have to transfer from camera to PC, then PC to
USB drive, but it is a very easy process. All can be just drag and drop.

Two uses:
1. Printing your photos at a camera shop.
This is a very eaay way to take your digital photos into a camera shop and
print them on their printers through the devices they have instore. Here in
Australia, these may have different names and brands, e.g. Agfa X-Box, but I
am sure they all work much the same aywhere.
2. Sharing your photos with friends on their PC.
In the old days, perhaps we took a photo album with us when we visited. Now
we can bore our friends and family by more technologically advanced means
:-)) - just put some photos on the USB drive and put it in your pocket; you
can then view them on their PC.

A 512 MB drive will hold about 500 photos, so there is plenty of space for
these two uses. It is not really enough for archiving: you soon exceed that
number -we certainly have. In fact, for archiving, one needs quite a bit of
storage, say several DVDs which will each hold about 4000-5000 photos. Or
even an extra hard disk.
